ur-ban 23rd August - 1st September 2012 Myself & fellow studio artist Selene Simcox had our first joint show together. It was High St., in Auckland CBD, at a shop called House of Hedone. We decided to exhibit together as our work resonates with the other. We both enjoy layering & the 'street' 'grunge' feel. & we're both up for a challenge & thought why the hell not!! Ruby and Selene both have an ongoing interest in mixed media, exploring the ‘free’ use of paint through stencil, layering, textures, patterns and street art. Ruby’s work often takes a semi-political response to society, her work invoking free speech. Selene’s work is a mix between excessive grunge and bold strong lines of pop art. Her pop art is inspired by fashion, sex and the music scene. Both artists are responding to mass media in contemporary society and how we listen, digest and respond in a hybrid manner through their artwork.
